Students in grades 5-9 are invited to participate in entrepreneurship camps held each summer in Eastern and Central Iowa. Campers interact with successful local entrepreneurs and learn the nuts and bolts of starting a business, even taking a product of their creation to market -- all in the context of a fun, summer day camp experience.

Don't tell the kids, but entrepreneur camp is a valuable learning experience informed by University of Iowa expertise in entrepreneurship and led by experienced, licensed Iowa educators. University of Iowa education students often serve as camp counselors.

The weeklong day camps are for students who will enter grades 5 through 9 in the fall and who are interested in entrepreneurship and/or owning a business. By the end of the week, your child will have a good understanding of what it's like to start a business and sell a product. Camps are held in Iowa City, Marion and Des Moines.

Campers will:

  • Work in teams.
  • Interact with local entrepreneurs.
  • Develop their own innovative product.
  • Determine the product's audience and pricing.
  • Craft a marketing plan.
  • Learn to how to give an elevator pitch.
  • Sell their product at the local farmers market.
